TLD open?

July 1st, 2008 by Sam Phippen

Until recently the top level domains had been limited to .com, country codes and a few other names. However its possible that icann are going to open the system up so top level domains such as .amazon or .bbc might be possible. Would you prefer to have big companies owning their own domains and the idea of a top level domain becoming less and less important. At the moment more or less all the companies in a country have the the same top level domain which means that localised companies can float higher in local search engines. Will these new TLD’s be spidered better or worse by search engines. As only one company exists within one top level domain this is like an “UBER” keyword that the search engine can lock onto. However if somone purchases their own TLD with a common keyword then any competitors will be totally locked out of the top level on that keyword. Personally I don’t want this to happen because the TLD’s have been locked for as long as I can remember

iphone 3g

June 25th, 2008 by Sam Phippen

I have decided to get an iphone 3g on pay as you go, for £299 *gasp*. However with this you get unlimited data for the first six months (a god send) and obviously an iphone. This is a really nice package and I think its going to suit me well. As the days count down you will see me getting more and more iphone fever. I’m __not__ going to jail break this one because its going to be too precious to risk losing. If you’ve got any comments on the iphone send them on in

Epic Fail

June 12th, 2008 by Sam Phippen

The British government has voted on a bill to allow terrorists to be detained up to 42 days. This makes me very angry. I strongly believe that this is a horrible affront to basic rights. It seems today that some of the most basic parts of the legal system that protect people are under attack. “Innocent till proven guilty!” is the warcry I’m yelling. DAMMIT People we all have the right to fair trial, we are all innocent till proven guilty. I’m very opposed to this. I mean seriously, your taking away our right to freedom.

On this thread, what also gets me really annoyed is ISP snooping. I don’t want them to log everything I’m doing. I want some basic freedoms and privacy. I beleive that civil liberties should come first and formost above anything else. They are extremley important. I want the right to privacy, to fair trial and to all the others!

On a final note, all my exams are over now! Party at my house (not really)
